Weekly Updates

Week Ending Friday, 24th November 2017

Please remember we are off on our trip on Tuesday so arrive at school on time. We will be checking yellow reading journals so please ensure you bring them to school along with your passport. Please ensure your Maths homework is handed in on time. 

Thanks for wearing your spots today and donating money to a very important charity. We had lots of fun playing playground games. 

Maths: We will be continuing to work on fractions. 

English: We will be writing a non-chronological report. 

SPaG: We will focus on fronted adverbials. 

Spelling: Vowel suffix with words ending in 'fer'

Science: We will look at the phases of the Moon

Topic:We will explore the Space Race.

Computing: We will continue to research and create a powerpoint. 

Art: We will continue to work on our Peter Thorpe inpsired art. 

Week Ending Friday, 17th November 2017

Maths: We will use our knowledge of multiples and factors to develop our knowledge of fractions. 

English: We will be inventing our own explanation text. 

SPaG: Sophisticated punctuation in our writing. 

Spelling: Suffix 'ably' and 'ibly'

Science: Understanding day and night.

Topic: Space timeline with a history focus. 

Computing: Planning and using powerpoint.

Art: We will continue to work on our art using Peter Thorpe as our inspiration. 

Week Ending Friday, 10th November 2017

Your child will bring home their 'Reading around the world' passport today. Please support us in reminding your child to read every day. Year 6 are off to experience a day of 'Life Skills' on Monday and we look forward to hearing about it on their return. 

Raffle tickets will be available from Monday to be in with a chance to win Pudsey Bear. Tickets cost 50p and will be on sale outside during playtimes. If you are not in, you can't win!

Please remember your child needs trainers for PE sessions. 

Maths: We will focus on fractions this week.

English: We will be innovating an explanation text this week.

SPaG: We will be revising basic grammar skills.

Spelling: Suffix 'able' and 'ible' 

Science: We will learning about the movement of the Earth, Sun and Moon. 

PE: Gymnastics and Sportshall athletics

PSHE: We'll be figuring out who our secret buddy has been. We will also begin to think about Growth Mindset and discuss what we think it is. 

Topic: We will look at stars and constellations. 

Computing: We will continue to work on coding. 

Art: We will create Art based on the work of Peter Thorpe. 

Week ending Friday, 3rd November 2017

 

Maths: We will focus on area, perimeter and volume. Please continue to learn your times tables at home.

English: We will use 'Talk for Writing' to learn an explanation text.

SPaG: We will be working on causal conjunctions.

Spellings: Suffix 'able'

Science: We will describe the differences between the Moon, Sun and Earth.

 

PE: Gymnastics and Sportshall athletics.

PSHE: We will explore and discuss our new gem. Secret 'buddies' will be chosen to support each other. Can your child figure out who their secret buddy is? 

Topic: We are developing a way of remembering the order of the planets in our Solar System. 

Computing: We will work on 'Coding' this term. 

Music: We will respond to Elton John's Rocket Man in Space. 

D&T:We will make alien masks. 

Art: We will create art based on the work of Peter Thorpe. 

Please remember that we expect your child to read for ten minutes, at least five times at week. This can be their library book, a magazine, recipe book or a book they have chosen. Reading is an essential part of your child's learning. Please sign their reading journals.  Thank you for your continued support. 


Homework and Spellings

Your child will receive weekly spellings to learn at home. We expect our children to read at least five times a week for a minimum of ten minutes. Reading is a very important part of your child's learning. Every child will take home a weekly arithmetic paper and please encourage your child to complete this weekly and return to school.
